Amy, great tip.  Yes, Sean it the man!  Now, I followed your instructions, and I have a hot link.  Keyed in my company website with the http:// and it was fine, except . . .

it is once in italics and then beneath that a repeat in regular font.  So the hot link is twice?

  • Ellen Finkelstein

    Thanks, I just added mine!

I love the strategy for opt in- although you have always been able to add links to your Twitter bio :)

  • Julia Rymut

Isn’t it amazing how impossible it is to know all the tricks?  I’m both awed and aghast at how hard it is to keep up with all the  tips–and all the ways they change and morph!

  • http://www.AmyPorterfield.com Amy Porterfield

AMEN to that, Julia! It’s almost impossible – I just can’t keep up sometimes :-)

  • Danny Cooper

  • http://russ.alman.us/ Russ Alman

Yup, I found this by accident a while back.  Twitter doesn’t make this obvious.

  • Clint

I agree Julia, it’s mind boggling. I love it that so many people are prepared to share what they know though

  • Tom Ehrich

Thanks for the tip. Used it right away.

    Nice one Amy!

I might add that you could also link to that opt-in page using Pretty Link for WordPress.

Why do I prefer that over Bit.ly?

I’ve found that some people don’t trust shortlinks as much due to people using them for spam.

If you use Pretty Link, the link in your bio could be something like amyporterfield.com/webinar rather than a Bit.ly link.

For instance instead of the “eepurl” that you get for MailChimp opt-ins, I prefer to use things like sophistefunk.com/newsletter because people see my domain name in the link.

Just my 2 cents, but nice tip nonetheless!

  • Clint

Thanks for your 2 cents. Good advice indeed!

  • http://www.sparringmind.com Gregory Ciotti

Thanks Clint! I’m all for including my domain name in links whenever I can: it’s good for visibility and people tend to trust domains more so than shortlinks.

Although Pretty Link doesn’t have a comprehensive tracking dashboard like Bit.ly (which is maybe why Amy uses it), it still tracks the number of clicks which works for me in situations like this where I don’t care about the details as much.

Very cool tip Amy! I’m wondering if 3rd party apps make it clickable. I am a heavy hootsuite user and it’s not clickable on Hootsuite (bummer) but I wonder what it looks like on other 3rd party apps.

Thanks for sharing! I put my personal twitter name on my business twitter page and noticed it turned that into a hotlink.
