So you’ve set up your Facebook Page and now you’re ready to start attracting fans… why is no one liking your Page? This is a common challenge that businesses face when they begin using Facebook to market. The good news is that there are some proven tips and strategies that will help you attract more quality, engaged fans.
The first step is to understand Facebook and why it is important to your business. Facebook is your launching pad. It’s where you start the engagement with your prospects and customers. It’s your foundation for your community. You build relationships, and this is where people get to know, like and trust you, which is incredibly valuable.
Consumers buy from brands they know AND trust.
So it all begins with gaining that trust, and attracting Facebook fans who are genuinely interested in your business will help you with this. Why? Because it’s really just a numbers game. The more loyal fans you have on Facebook, the higher your chances of being seen and heard inside Facebook. The more fans you have liking your posts, sharing your content and engaging with your Page, the more exposure you will get within Facebook. It’s “word of mouth” advertising at its best.
You want an army of raving fans talking about you – and Facebook can do just that!
Another benefit to having those engaged fans is that it gives you social proof. You’ll hear this phrase thrown around in the social media marketing community and basically it means that when someone comes to your Facebook Page and sees you have a few thousand fans (or more!) they think, “OK, this company is legit.”
When they see you interacting with the fans, answering questions and providing quality information, then they also know that you are engaged and committed to the community. They think, “This is a community I want to be a part of.”
You also have that word of mouth advertising working for you. People want to become fans of Pages their friends and peers like. The more fans you have, the more new fans you can get because others will see that their friends have liked you.
So how do you begin building those fans?
There’s No Secret Formula to Getting More Fans
First, there’s really no secret formula to getting more fans. You’ve probably heard all the strategies to get more fans, all the strategies that really work and probably some that don’t.
While the truth is that there are no real secrets to gaining more fans, there are, however, some smart strategies that will help you get the word out about your Page. For example, you can add your Page URL in your email signature. We all email dozens of times a week, at the very least. So every time you email, why not add your URL to your Facebook Page in your email signature to gain a little more exposure?
You can also include it on your business cards, link to it from your Facebook personal profile, and use your current email list to tell people about your Page. But remember you have to do more than just say “Hey, come like my Page!” You need to give them some actual incentive to do so. You could do a contest or a giveaway or say “Anybody who becomes a fan in the next two weeks will get a special discount code.” Whatever it might be, give them an incentive for liking your page.
Now that we’ve covered the standards, let’s move on to my top three methods of attracting quality fans to your Page.
Three proven strategies for attracting more quality, engaged fans to Your Facebook Page
Strategy #1: The Facebook Like Box
The Facebook Like Box is a simple tool that is essential to your fan-building campaign. When you add a Like Box to your website, you create a new path for people to find you. Those who are visiting your website are probably reading your pages and blog posts, listening to your podcasts or enjoying other information that you post. They are consumers of your content already and the like box makes it very easy for them to click one button and then instantly follow you over on Facebook.
Here’s why you should add a Like Box to your website:
- Your website audience is already a fan and very likely to follow you on Facebook, too.
- It’s easy to implement (takes less than 5 minutes!) and is one of the more effective ways to grow a quality fan community.
- The Like Box will get you more fans but NOT move your existing website traffic over to Facebook so you don’t lose the website visitor.
Remember that you can also get creative with your Like Box and put it in other places on your website, such as on Thank You page or after someone signs up for one of your webinars or downloads your eBook.
The Facebook Like Box works outside of Facebook to build you more fans. Now let’s look at a method used inside Facebook to boost likes.
Strategy #2: Target Potential Fans with Facebook Social Ads
Facebook ads are another method of getting fans to your Page. You can create an ad using Facebook’s advertising tool that will run inside Facebook and invite others to like your Page. This is an incredibly effective method of increasing likes and you can tailor it specifically to your budget. Whether your budget is $5 per day or $50 per day, you can choose an option that works for you and still continue to bring in new fans consistently.
Both of the examples above are “Page Post Ads” that are targeted to non-fans in the news feed. Page Post Ads are ads that are initially status updates that you post on your Page and then turn into an ad. I call these ads “social ads” because Page Post Ads include the like, share and comment links in the ads, making them more social. And even better, when non-fans see these ads, the “Like Page” button appears in the ad. Good stuff, right? You can create these “news feed like ads” inside the Power Editor. To learn more about the Power Editor, go here.
Here’s why Facebook Page Post Ads targeted to non-fans work like gangbusters:
- These ads are simple to set up and can be pretty cheap too.
- Page Post Ads include the Like, Share and Comment links in the ads, making them appear more like status updates than promotional posts.
- When you run Like Ads, your exposure, reach and impact on Facebook increases quickly.
Now let’s look at the next strategy.
Strategy 3: Increase Your Engagement
Finally, one of the most important new fan-attraction strategies of all is to increase your engagement. Why would anyone want to hang around a Page with a brand that isn’t talking back or participating in conversation? You also want to increase your engagement because it builds the relationship with your leads and turns them into customers.
Here’s how engagement will help you attract more fans:
One of the most common reasons why people on Facebook struggle to get more fans is that they don’t have any engagement on their Facebook Page. When you don’t have engagement you won’t be seen in the news feed and the news feed is where all the action is on Facebook.
When you get people talking about you on Facebook (liking your posts, commenting and sharing your content) your exposure organically increases (meaning you don’t have to pay for the engagement, it just happens naturally). When your exposure increases, your fan base increases.
It’s where you must give 100% to build your authority. Answer questions, ask questions, and engage with people on a level that they’re not getting on other Facebook Pages. Be that go-to authority and that expert source they are seeking and not only will they return to your Page again and again, but they will recommend you to friends, which gives you even more fans.
One way to attract massive engagement is to ask your fans for their feedback and insight. I recently did this on my own Facebook Page when I needed feedback about my new newsletter banner.
