How Do I Change the Name of My Facebook Page?

Have you chosen a name for your Facebook Page and then decided you don’t want to keep it? Or perhaps you want to keep the name of the Page, but noticed you have a typo in the name and because of that need to change it. This actually happened to one of my clients, and he really needed to get it fixed!

The great news is, you can request a Facebook Page name change!

As you know, Facebook is always changing, but at the time this post is being written, if you have fewer than 200 Facebook fans, you can easily change the name of your Facebook Page in the Edit Settings area.

However, if you have more than 200 fans, there are a few more steps you need to take in order to change the name of your Facebook Page.

Step 1: Go in to edit settings and from there, under Page Info, “click edit” next to name.
image2a

Step 2: When you click edit, you’ll see something that says, “Request Change” as you can see pictured in step #2 above.

When you click on request change, the box pictured below pops up and gives you information regarding the guidelines for changing the name of your Page.

Step 3: When you click that little box at the bottom that says, “I understand the formatting guidelines for my Page’s new name,” you’ll then go to a page where you’ll enter information about your current Page name and what you want it changed to.

From there, there’s a dropdown where you can select an option that indicates why you want to change your Page’s name.

Here’s the bad news: If you’ve done this more than once, you’ll most likely be unable to change the name of your Facebook Page again. However, if you’ve never changed your Page’s name, you have a good chance of getting it approved.

It may take awhile, so be patient! Wait a good week, and if nothing’s happened, try going through the process over again. Facebook has over a billion active users, so their response time isn’t great. In some cases, people have had to go through the process multiple time in order for it to finally get the attention it needs.

I have the same problem and no one can find my business facebook page. How can I fix this?

  • http://awesci.com/ AweSci

Woah! this is exactly what I wanted to do last night but since I had 400 fans I stopped dreaming about it. Now there is a new hope. Will do it right away. No not so quick…will think really hard….as it is the last change I’ll get ;)

Good article for beginners Amy, but it’s always nice to read your posts. In my experience, I’ve seen many cases of companies having their names changed more than once, although it is true that the more you change it, the more it takes to have it approved.

So sorry to hear that! Have you by chance changed your name multiple times?

  • http://www.professionalcontentcreation.com/ Rebecca Livermore

Hi Julie, you change the web address by changing the name of the page. Here’s a link with some info on it! https://www.facebook.com/help/www/200712339971750?sr=3&sid=0UyeL7KhUlcfGJ3lI

Hi Cynthia, you can do this, but they have to be very closely related pages with very similar names. Here’s a link with more information! https://www.facebook.com/help/www/249601088403018?sr=1&sid=0FcQMMLcJ0Iqy4339

    Hey Amy!
What about the cases where it doesn’t show up the ‘request change’ option?

  • Petra

This option is only available in US and Canada. I had someone from the US fill in the request for me, but I am not sure if it will be accepted.

  • http://www.AmyPorterfield.com Amy Porterfield

Hmmmm..where do you live, @ANGELSandSANTAS:disqus? (So sorry for my late replay – I missed this one before!)

  • http://www.AmyPorterfield.com Amy Porterfield

Miranda – where are you located? Also, have you ever changed your page name in the past?

  • http://www.AmyPorterfield.com Amy Porterfield

Hi, @julesleman:disqus – Oh No! Unfortunately, this might take awhile to get changed. The only thing you can do is send in a FB support ticket to ask them to help you – when you do this be VERY specific – tell them what it is now and tell them what you need it to be. Be short and to the point. I would send in a request every two weeks until you get an answer. I know this is a pain, but there is no good solution for this. Frustrating, I know!

  • http://www.AmyPorterfield.com Amy Porterfield

Karezz – check out what I posted above!

  • Carol Daniels

Yikes, I wrote my comment and it was lost when I created the disqus account.

I have two facebook pages one with an okay name and url, the other with a ridiculously long number appended to it.

I’ve tried to log in and change the user name for one of the two pages I’ve created but I am unable to do that.

The problem(s) when I attempted to do the change when signed into facebook via the page I get an error message telling me I have to do it from my personal account. But that’s not the one I want to change.

And none of the page names I from the facebook/username page are available. I realise that lots of common or easy to remember names will already be taken, but even some ludicrously odd combos I came up with were also rejected.

I can see that they would be rejected as real people’s names, but that’s not what I’m trying to name.

So the okay page is The Vagabond Gal and the url is:

    https://www.facebook.com/thevagabondgal

    the blog is vagabondgal.com

The wacky one’s page name is For-the-journey the url is:

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/For-the-journey/212945772246539?ref=hl

I hope this hasn’t been a incoherent rant, the screen grabs may help me make more sense.

Thanks for any help, even pointers to other resources.

    Carol

It may take a while, so be patient! Delay a good 7 days, and if nothing’s occurred, try going through the procedure over again. Facebook or myspace has over a billion dollars effective customers, so their reaction time is not great. In some situations, people have had to go through the procedure several period of time in order for it to lastly get the attention it needs.

I have an issue that I’ve never been able to solve. I had to add “FP” (for Fan Page) at the end of my page name because I *used* to have a personal page that was named Mark Struczewski but I deleted it. However, I was not able to reuse this for my Fan Page. I have no idea why. There are no other Mark Struczewski’s on Facebook (or the world) other than me. This is one of the reasons I like how on Twitter you can change your handle as many times as you want as long as no one else is using it (I know this because my 16-year-old daughter changes hers like every other week). I wish we could do this with Facebook or at least contact them about this. @amyporterfield:disqus: do you know of a solution for this? Thank you.

  • DFLifestyles

Amy you didn’t mention the documentation needed in order to complete the name change request. Can you discuss that a bit?

  • Jeff

At one point they had a request form for those over 200 fans. Any links to that form? Our business has changed names and it’s vital to change it. Would appreciate any help.

  • LeeLoo

Do You know how we can contact facebook team to write about changing facebook name? Maybe I can write to them…I don’t see request change opinion…:/ Ty

  • Peder

    Did it
function to get somebody in the US to do it?

  • Krsity

Great information! But it didn’t work for me, i tried these steps given by http://viralkick.com/blog/change-name-facebook/ and it worked for me. For those who are having difficulties, you try that one too. :)

  • Jeni Miller

I’m in the US and there’s no “request change” option for me. =(

  • Jeni Miller

All I wish to do is add an apostrophe to the title of our fan page for a film. To change the title of the page, however, there is no such button for me to “request change”… and I’m in the US… So now what? I even went searching for a place to maybe add my country’s location, in case I somehow missed that. Nowhere. Facebook seriously needs to have a dang customer service department. Their system is terrible when giving advice that doesn’t work. =(

This is down to ‘fb’ being a trademark of Facebook’s. See the statement of rights here: https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms

I had the same problem with a client of mine that wanted ‘fb’ at the end of their URL. No can do unfortunately. Shame for all those who may be in location that uses ‘fb’… imagine what would happen if it was ‘sf!’
