Listen To My Latest Podcast Episode:#299: Say Goodbye to Imposter Syndrome and Skyrocket Your Business Success

Position Overview

For some, numbers are a source of stress. For you, they induce calm, clarity, and a sense of certainty that’s hard to find elsewhere. Financial forecasting, budgets, and crunching the numbers might make 98% of the population cower in fear, but you’re of the 2% that delights in making sense of spreadsheets, PNLs and creating high-level financial planning strategies that mitigate risk and maximize revenue.

Our ideal candidate will come to the table with at least 7 years prior financial accounting experience (including at least a few years experience in a leadership capacity), a high-level of reliability, and enthusiasm when it comes to driving strong strategic initiatives to move the business forward.

This position is vital to our success as a company as we are committed to helping others find financial freedom and purpose in their own lives. You’ll be in charge of looking at the big picture and measuring which programs and projects lead to the most ROI so that we can consistently do more of what works and ditch the rest.

This is an amazing opportunity to partner with a visionary leadership team in driving the strategy and growth for a company that’s committed to making a positive impact in as many lives as possible.

Our ideal Director of Finance is incredibly organized, detail oriented, and great at presenting complex analysis and strategic recommendations clearly. You’ll be an integral part of a fast-paced, dedicated team that loves to have fun and make an impact in the lives of online entrepreneurs everywhere!

This role is a full-time, remote position — living in Southern California is a plus however we can also accept applicants residing in TX, MA, CO, MN, NY, DC, and NC. You’ll report directly to our CEO while also working closely with other key members of the team.

We’re not your average company — we always make sure our team members have plenty of freedom and flexibility to live their best lives, recharge, and have fun (major perks of working as a remote team!)

That said, the online marketing world doesn’t take breaks — that’s why we need our team members to be flexible too. Our dream Director of Finance is open to finding their own rhythm and creating a schedule that serves their life while also ensuring they get the job done.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Finance will be working closely with the leadership team as well as our virtual accounting team (including our CPA and bookkeeper). You’ll be in the driver’s seat when it comes to directing the financial impact of strategic initiatives and ROI analyses.

That means staying organized, thinking ten steps ahead, managing contractors and balancing the big picture with the small steps and details that will help the company get to where we want to go.

Your tasks will include: budgeting and resource allocation, reviewing financial contracts, collaborating with the leadership team and building financial models for strategic planning initiatives to ensure we meet our goals. In addition to:

  • Developing the business’s financial forecasting model so we as a company can be committed to thinking about and preparing for an increasingly prosperous future.
  • Ongoing strategic financial planning and analysis so we can rest assured we’re making the right investments and covering all our bases.
  • Prepare detailed monthly, quarterly and annual reports and forecasts on financial performance.
  • Always thinking ahead and keeping constant awareness on our financial position in order to spot a potential problem long before it manifests.
  • Monitor cash flow, all accounts, and financial transactions on a weekly basis.
  • Communicate and work with service providers, contractors, and banking institutions when necessary.
  • Create policies, goals, objectives, and SOPs for the financial department.
  • Provide actionable insights to help ensure we’re making the right investment decisions to move the business forward.

Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate possesses the following strengths and skills:

  • A degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, or Accounting.
  • Experience and in-depth understanding when it comes to bank reconciliation, cash flow management, and bookkeeping.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Google Sheets, and Excel is essential.
  • Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills and the ability to translate complicated analysis results succinctly and clearly to a team that isn’t necessarily fluent in the language of finance.
  • Insane attention to detail and organizational skills are a must.
  • You thrive working with a fast-paced team and don’t shy away from delegating and steering the financial ship.
  • You’re a strategic big picture thinker and an effective leader that loves getting things done and seeing results.
  • You’re all about growth and progress, as the Director of Finance you’ll continually ask yourself ‘How can I help guide the company toward long-term profitability and success?’.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously—gets things done, meets deadlines and keeps promises.
  • Flexible when it comes to adapting timelines and sometimes working outside of the regular 9-5.

Our Values

Our team is ambitious (always striving for excellence), hungry (competitive to the core; always wanting to be at the top) and enthusiastic (always excited about the work we are doing.)

We do whatever it takes to get the job done.

→ “That’s not my job” is not part of our vocabulary.

→ Since we are a small, but mighty team, we jump in where needed and are not afraid to get our hands dirty in the details.

→ We do whatever it takes to do the best we can in our specific roles.

When it comes to our customers and community, we lead with compassion.

→ We understand that everyone is doing the very best they can in the moment.

→ We subscribe to the belief that everyone we connect with is fighting their own battle we know nothing about.

→ We believe that compassion and kindness are exactly what they need to keep moving forward.

We are all coachable.

→ We are willing to make mistakes, learn from them quickly and continue to grow.

→ We put down our defenses, take a moment to process, take the feedback and run with it.

We each take complete ownership of our roles.

→ Never will you see us pass off our job or project to someone else.

→ Although we know we can always ask for help, we keep our own monkeys.

→ We each feel extreme pride in the work we are doing and we own our projects like a boss.

We are resourceful to the core. You will never hear us say it can’t be done. We will find a way.

→ We are creative, strategic and thoughtful in our actions. We believe there is always a way to make it work and we will do the digging to figure it out.

→ We don’t expect others on the team to tell us what to do or how to do it. We always help each other out when needed, but ultimately, when needed, we do the work to figure things out.

We laugh . . . a lot.

→ We genuinely like working with each other, so finding the fun in the moment, even when things are tough, it is just part of our culture.
