My first launch was a flop (a mighty-but-tiny 5 sales). But I’m SO glad I created the course because, not so long after, it allowed my business to thrive during the pandemic and grow into a business I completely adore.

To back up for a second, I left law in 2017 to teach people my odd-but-effective time management system. That said, as a one-on-one consultant, I’d swapped one job that traded hours for money for another. I kept looking for another business model.

In 2019, I discovered Amy and digital courses, and in late 2019, I jumped into DCA to create a time management course for entrepreneurs.

I launched it in January 2020, and, as I said, flop. But I knew from the results I was getting with one-on-one clients to keep trying to get it out there.

Enter the pandemic.

My husband was suddenly essentially gone (he’s an ER physician), and because my daughter’s daycare was closed, I had no daylight hours to give to my one-on-one clients.

At the same time, I had many potential clients in the legal field reaching out for time management help now that courts were closed and they had more time. But without daylight hours to give them, I couldn’t take them on as one-on-one clients.

So, I pivoted. Thinking of my time management course for entrepreneurs in my back pocket, I decided to see if I could run a group program for professional working women (e.g., attorneys, doctors, and women in corporate) using a course as the base curriculum.

My idea: re-record the course (at night when my daughter was asleep) to gear it more to the professional working woman’s life, recording each week one week ahead of the group program using the slides (and DCA knowledge) I had already from my entrepreneur course.

I’d throw in email support (which I could respond to when my daughter was asleep) and an hour group call every Friday (during my daughter’s naptime).

I emailed out to my list to see if anyone would be up for the group program. Two people said yes, and without a ton of other options, I went for it!

And… that first group was MAGICAL! Despite thinking people would not want to learn time management in a group because of some feelings of shame around the struggle and the need for personalized tailoring, the group dynamic knocked my socks off. My clients’ results were better because they were setting the system up themselves, so it was clicking more.

Everyone finished the program because of the group accountability. And the support and community were a total surprise. And this all benefitted me, too. Because everyone finished, the testimonials rolled in and breathed life into my future programs.

It also provided more time freedom for me given that after that first course, the bulk of the curriculum already existed for every subsequent program. This allowed me to focus my energy on serving the women in my groups and marketing.

From my first launch of 5 sales, to now – running my 10th group, this time with 30 women, I have made a total PROFIT of $213,000! More importantly, I’ve done so in a slow way that works for my family and the phase of life I’m in with four- and one-year-old girls.

Amy has done such a beautiful job emphasizing how success can look different for everyone, and I feel like DCA has been instrumental in me finding my own version of what success means to me.

I now run 2–3 programs a year, and I schedule programs ONLY when they work best for my family. For example, I ran programs in early 2021, but then took five months off for my maternity leave with my second daughter through the end of the year.

In addition, what Amy teaches is so flexible. As my life evolves and kids get older, I’m excited to scale this model. But for now, I’m just enjoying this pace of growth – and the flexibility I have to care for my family.
