“I’m in my mastermind era. 🤣”
I said this like a joke, but meant it with my whole heart. And the group chat that got this text was full of women who 100% understood what I meant.
17 years in, I’ve learned something about myself.
There are seasons when I hibernate. I don’t want any ideas in my head that aren’t my own.
Then there are seasons where I need the exact opposite. I need to be in a room full of women doing big, hard, brilliant things, because being close to that energy changes what I believe is possible for me.
I’m in one of those seasons right now. My mastermind era. 😉
As you’ve seen, I recently pivoted my entire business model. I am growing in a whole new direction, and left to my own devices, I would be figuring it out alone in my office.
Because once you’ve achieved a certain level in your business, isolation becomes a dangerous default.
The reality is that very few people understand your season.
So you stop trying to join new rooms. You tell yourself you are too busy, too far along, whatever. You say things like, “I just need to focus.” But you can’t.
And then the season when you most need other founders becomes the season you isolate.
Here is what I cannot say loudly enough.
The fastest way I have ever found my own blind spots is to sit with women who are a step ahead or right alongside me.
They see what I am too close to see, and I walk out with clarity I could not have reached on my own.
So when my business grew enough to make it possible, I built a room like this for my community. It’s called The Milly Club. If you’re making $500K or more and you’ve been telling yourself you just don’t have time for something like this, there’s a chance you just haven’t found the right room. The kind with women who earn like you, launch like you, and get real like you do.
And if you’re not at the $500k level yet but still looking for your right room? You're on your way. I’ve been working on some new fun things for you, too. Stay tuned.
Are You Guessing Or Do You Really Know?
One of the most expensive sentences a founder can say is, “I think I know why they're not buying.”
Not because you're wrong. Because you're guessing.
I was recently talking with one of my coaching clients about the exact same problem.
People were showing up. Opening the emails, watching the content, nodding along. And then not buying.
So they did what smart founders do. They analyzed the funnel. Tweaked the messaging. Studied the numbers.
None of that is wrong.
But here is what I kept thinking: why spend months talking about the people who didn't buy, and almost no time talking to them?
We will interpret behavior from behind a screen for weeks and build entire theories, all while the people with the actual answers are right there, waiting to be asked!
We avoid it because listening feels vulnerable.
Asking means you might hear something you do not want to hear, that the story you have been telling yourself about why sales are down is not true.
That is the scary part. It is also where the breakthrough lives.
So this week, stop staring at your own marketing and go to the source. Put together a mini focus group.
Choose 10 people who looked and did not buy. Invite them to a group call. No pitches allowed, just listen. Ask about their challenges, their goals, and what made them hesitate.
The answers you have been guessing at are one honest conversation away (and the responses… treat them like gold, because they are!)
From Horror Film to Hollywood 🎬
If you’re anything like me, your hands get shaky when filming on your iPhone. So much so that your walking and talking videos look less “content creator” and more “found footage horror film.” Just me?!
To fix this, I got a gimbal. The iSteady V3 Ultra. You hold it, it does the steadying, and suddenly, I look like I hired a camera crew.
Thank me later.
This Newsletter Needs a Name (and I'm Bribing You for It) 🎤
Confession: this newsletter has landed in your inbox for over a year (time flies!), and it still does not have a name.
Seventeen years of telling people to nail their messaging, and I never named my own thing. The irony is not lost on me.
So I'm handing this one to you.
Email me at amy@amyporterfield.com (*note this has now closed) and send me your most creative name for this newsletter. Anything goes. The bolder and more unexpected, the better.
Here is the fun part. If I choose yours, I’ll send you the Gimbal I’ve been using so your videos look like the professional you are!
You have 48 hours. I'm announcing on IG later this week, so hurry up!
This is going to be fun. Email me at amy@amyporterfield.com (*note this has now closed). I cannot wait to read yours!
Nice chat! Let’s do it again next week.
Until then, hunt down your own future group chat, quit giving your video viewers vertigo, and please, oh please, help me figure out what to call this thing.
Amy
P.S. I wrote a $30,000 check on day two of a mastermind weekend, and it took me four seconds to decide. This week, I break down the difference between spending like a hobbyist and spending like an operator, and why you can no longer afford to confuse the two. 🎧 Listen here
