#004: Proven Video Marketing Strategies for Any Marketing Budget: Interview with James Wedmore

On this episode of the Online Marketing Made Easy podcast, we talk about a topic that I have a love/hate relationship with, and that’s video marketing. I love video, because it has been one of the most important ways I’ve built my brand, but I hate it at times because it doesn’t come naturally to me.

Since I’m not a video marketing expert, and because I believe that video is essential for anyone building a brand online, I asked a good friend of mine, James Wedmore, who is a YouTube and Video Marketing Expert to come on the show and share his tips and proven video marketing strategies that you can implement today, even if your budget and experience with video up to this point is limited.

In this episode, here’s what we’ll cover:

  • How James created a wildly successful video around a list-building strategy — a strategy that you can model for your own business.
  • Why videos James created in college to promote an entirely different business are still paying dividends today.
  • How James plans his video marketing efforts to make the whole video making process much easier.
  • How to create great videos without being on camera.
  • What you have to do first before you can raise the bar on the quality of your videos.
  • How to get around using a teleprompter without memorizing an entire video script.
  • The list-building with video strategy that James personally uses.
  • The simple 6-step process that James uses for all of his videos, that you can easily copy, regardless of your level of experience with videos.

I’m definitely a rambling talking head! My biggest struggle is that I also don’t want to spend a ridiculous amount of time on video. And it would seem to me that once you talk about scripting and memorizing sentences, etc. — it becomes a production that I don’t have time for once a week.

Any other thoughts there? Am I just making excuses?

Really appreciate the podcast. I know of James but haven’t seen much of his stuff. Like how he’s a real dude. As you know, so many marketers are over the top and sales heavy. Enjoyed listening to him talk.

Great episode, I’m really enjoying your podcast, glad to you decided to do it. I went to a couple of Brendan Burchard events last year and Brendan is a huge fan of video. He has an entire apartment that he calls his studio and he talked about his process for making videos, he’s definitely an expert. I personally have started recording more video and it has gotten me a few new subscribers :)

Amy, I have to say that was brilliant. One of the best interviews I’ve heard in a long time (and I listen to a lot!). It was casual and relaxed; I felt like I was eavesdropping on a chat between friends. But at the same time it was informative and packed full of practical things I can implement today. I’m like you; an introvert who isn’t comfortable with being on camera. But whilst listening to it, I found myself deciding to do a video every fortnight. Yikes!

    Thanks again.

Hi, Jen! THANK YOU for such a nice comment – I am trying to get better and better at my interviewing skills, so your post just made my day. I am so glad you liked the session – I am such a fan of Mr. Wedmore’s strategies :-) And GOOD LUCK with your video goal – that’s a big one!

Hi! I LOVE Brendan’s video set-up. I had the opportunity to film a few videos there a few years back and I was in heaven! :-) He has taught me so much about the value of video marketing. So happy we connected here, Kimanzi – and thank you for listening to my new podcast!

  • http://www.AmyPorterfield.com Amy Porterfield

I hear ya, Jon. I can’t do it weekly – I have to batch for sure – I usually only film once a month – it’s a process and takes a lot of time and energy – but so worth it!

Another great interview Amy. Love, love, love your approach and honesty!

Love it Amy, I really feel the same as you about video but know I need to get doing a lot more of it. I really want to do some focusing on keywords for my Niche market. I am about halfway through James program and have purchased the Easy Video Suite program. Really enjoying your podcasts, its nice to be able to just listen and do something else that does not need alot of concentration at the same time.

John! THANK YOU so much for taking the time to say such nice things – I am a big fan of your podcast too – such great content from so many experts!

  • Damani Rhodes

This interview was amazing! I’m glad I took the time to listen. It was confirmation for me on so many levels. I was concerned because the vast majority of my traffic was coming from YouTube even though I have been investing all the money in Facebook marketing. I’m subscribed to you so I can learn how to do better on Facebook but I’m also excited to know that what I’m doing on YouTube is something I should continue and even expand. James’s ideas are genius…. I said all that to say…. Thank you…. No really, thank you!

People were raving about this one in B-School, so I had to check it out (even though I was busy with homework). I have James’ Video Traffic Academy and he’s the real deal. I need to implement a Youtube strategy this year and the information the two of you provided is great.

    So much work to do!

  • Michelle

Can you provide the link to the Liz DiAlto video that you referenced in the podcast? Thanks!

  • http://www.AmyPorterfield.com Amy Porterfield

Hi, Michelle! Unfortunately the video was only up for a special promo and no longer live. Bummer!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jameswedmore James Wedmore

Wow thanks to everyone for the super kind comments!!

And Thank YOU Amy for choosing me to be on your podcast!

    Amy,

I really feel that the short and rough videos get a lot of hits, i have a video site that is purely funny videos that are mined from Twitter. Videos for me are more about the title and showing up in the search queries. The more recent and popular for the time I think out does any quality built video. Also a site that is curating videos to share is http://www.Motionpictur.com I will be returning for future podcasts.

    Thanks,

    Paul
