Helping people tell their stories is my passion. That’s my absolute calling.
And I had been wanting to use my 20 years of experience as a news reporter to help people tell their stories to create some sort of side income…
(But I didn’t quite know how.)
That’s when my friend told me about Digital Course Academy.
When I looked into it, it seemed like the perfect fit for what I wanted to do… So I signed up!
To be honest, I was a little intimidated at first. To say I’m not very tech-savvy is an understatement! I was worried I wouldn’t have time to master all of this. Social media I can do, but a landing page? (How was I going to make that?!)
As someone who appreciates structure, I loved that all of the training was broken down into lessons with easy-to-follow PDFs. This gave me the exact game plan of what to do, how to do it, and in what order.
I have been known to be a bit of a perfectionist… and it was the support included in DCA that kept me going. Amy’s coaches are so supportive, and they always knew what I needed to hear to get me unstuck.
The power of DCA is that you can literally create a course for anything! It’s incredible to see the variety of topics from the people in your group. You want to create a course on how to care for a giraffe: “Yep, you can!”
Caring for a giraffe isn’t my specialty, so instead, I created a course aligned with what is:
It’s called “The Do It Yourself Public Relation Tool Kit for Authors,” and my course helps authors, who are naturally introverted, learn how to market themselves and make connections in the industry.
Since I am not techy… I held my course on Zoom and designed it to be more of a conversational setting. (This works really well for my personality and teaching style, and I found that it worked really well for my students too.)
I didn’t end up making a landing page… I just decided to do the best I could without getting too stressed out about the tech… and it worked!
When I launched my course, I had about 200 people on my list, plus all my social media connections.
And even with a small audience, I was able to enroll 5 students into my program. And all 5 chose the additional one-on-one coaching session upgrade!
Meaning on my very first launch I did $4,985 in sales!
The money is awesome, obviously, but the real win for me is being able to offer a course that allows me to fully express myself and really help people in a way that is impacting their lives too.
I help them bring out their best and share their stories with the world.
And to me that is absolutely priceless!
