Working in the corporate world was just not sitting well with me anymore. Even though I had been a faithful employee, I had no control over my salary and certainly not of my time.
My entrepreneur friends encouraged me to branch out and offer one-on-one coaching as a business coach – so I did!
This was my secret side hustle that I hoped would one day become my full-time job…
But I needed to be real, I had a family and a mortgage, and I couldn’t just walk away from my stable paycheck. It took 4 years before I was comfortable enough to put in my notice and go all into private coaching.
And once I took the leap, and had more time to work on my business, I came up with an idea for an online course that would perfectly complement my coaching offer. So I filmed a course all on my own… but to be honest, I had no idea what I was doing.
It wasn’t till a year later that I discovered Digital Course Academy through Amy’s podcast. And my first thought was: “This sounds like what I SHOULD have done!”
So I signed up and went all in!
First, I learned that I needed to talk to my ideal clients to find out what they wanted, not what I thought they needed! I had been doing it all wrong! The market research exercise helped me figure out what course topic my audience wanted to buy.
So I then reworked my existing course and created a newer, updated version using Amy’s post-it-note strategy. (I can’t walk down an office supply aisle without thinking about her now, lol!) It’s a super simple and visual trick to get your course module topics in order, and it helped me a TON.
My course is now called “Business Visibility Made Easy,” which I include with my group coaching package. (My coaching and support are the main focus of my program, but this course ties everything together and increases the value of what I am offering.)
After my course was mapped out, I tackled the webinar module. I studied Amy’s entire system slide by slide! And it took the “overwhelm” out of how to create and perform a successful webinar!
My first 4 launches were moderately successful, bringing in 4 figures consistently. But during my 5th launch, I made $28,000! It felt so amazing to have a 5-figure launch! (6 figures, here I come!)
Each launch, I try something different. I make some tweaks to my course, and even to how I do my live webinars. Each launch gets better and better, and I feel more and more confident in my selling!
I also started to realize in my interactions with potential clients that some were not quite ready for group coaching.
So, using the knowledge I gained in DCA, I have created several lower-ticket self-study courses for this segment of my audience. That way, they can still get support and, hopefully, when they are ready, come find me again!
What I discovered is that when you create a product suite, you open up your world to so many more people at various price points… which can really help to increase your revenue.
I am at an age where I still have young kids, AND my parents are aging and also need my help. Having the freedom of being in charge of my time and finances has allowed me to be able to care for everyone without being so stressed, or having to choose between work and my family.
