How to slow down in your business (& feel totally ok with it)
When I launched Two Weeks Notice, I took advantage of every opportunity that I could to promote the book, and get it into the hands of women who need it.
That meant doing over 100 podcast interviews, flying all over the country for media promotions, and sacrificing a lot of things in my personal life so I could do more in my business. I was very much in a season of yes.
Everything I committed to, I showed up for in full force — and I’ll tell ya, it was well worth it. Two Weeks Notice made the NYT bestseller list and even topped the list in the Wall Street Journal, too.
But I’ll be honest with you. Now that my book launch is over with, I’ve got to slow down. I need to move into the next season — a season of rest — and prioritize myself, my family and friends, and my health.
Because guess what? As important as my business is, everything outside of it is important, too.
This doesn’t come naturally, sweet friend, and it’s going to take an intentional effort for me to pull off. But I know it’s what I need to do, and I am 100% committed to doing it.
In this episode, I share what it’s like to go from a level 100 (where you’re doing all of the things, all of the time), to taking an intentional pause — and why that’s important to do from time to time
Enjoy!
Here’s a glance at this episode…
- [02:26] I've officially entered a season of calm and a season of rest. It feels fantastic. I'm still working. It's more of a mindset shift.
- [03:01] I've been launching my book non-stop for the last 5 months. I was fully committed from October to the middle of March. I was saying yes to almost every opportunity that I felt would help get the message out.
- [04:39] I'm going to talk about what it's like going from level 100 to taking an intentional pause and why it's important to do so from time to time.
- [05:23] I wanted my book to reach beyond my audience and speak to people who are unhappy in their current situations.
- [07:51] The power of my why was showing up full force during my book launch. When I was uncomfortable or having a good cry I had to remember why I was doing all of this in the first place.
- [08:40] My book hit the New York Times for two weeks in a row. It was also in spot number two of The Wall Street Journal for multiple weeks. Talking to people who are reading the book and doing something with it has been the most rewarding part.
- [10:25] My calendar was still really crazy after the book came out. I had to give my executive assistant permission to start saying no to things. She's allowed to push things out if needed.
- [11:54] I've been intentional about moving into this next season. I've told everyone that I'm moving into a season of rest and have asked for more white space.
- [12:38] It's 100% okay to be in a season of yes. Remember that it's a season. We also need to remember that it can't always be a season of yes, and nobody thrives in a constant season of yes.
- [13:18] When does your season of yes end? When does your season of yes begin?
- [16:49] What season are you in right now? How long is the season going to last? Is the season working for me? What does the next season look like for me?
