I was a middle school teacher in Los Angeles, and another teacher friend of mine and I wanted to start a summer writing camp for our middle school students.

It was really successful at first, but then we ran into a lot of obstacles and had to shut it down. We knew we had something amazing, and the framework we developed could help both teachers and students… so we started selling our teaching resources online. The first year was great. It wasn’t a huge success, but it was a nice side business.

Around that time, I heard Amy’s podcast episode with another educator talking about her success, and I knew we could do the same thing with writing for middle school. I called my business partner Jessica, and said, “We have always wanted to do this. I think we should buy this.”

Jessica is notoriously tentative about spending money, so I didn’t think she’d go for it. Thankfully, Amy’s content and step-by-step instructions totally convinced her and she realized Amy was someone we could trust. We were all in.

Because it was our very first launch, we made sure we followed everything Amy said to a T. We started our Facebook ads, used all of the technology she recommended, and e-mailed our list of about 3,000 subscribers.

Our first webinar had 333 people registered, 132 showed up, and 21 conversions. The next one had 534 registered, 217 showed up and this time we had 55 conversions before the webinar was even over. So at $147 each, we made over $11,000. That was almost a third of what we had made in the entire previous year… in just two webinars. It was so crazy!

But after working with Amy and launching our first online professional development course, we have seen incredible transformations for the teachers who are taking the program and more importantly for their students who are improving their writing skills significantly.

It's been an amazing journey – especially because we get to support teachers in a much bigger and more profound way!

Now we’re planning in-person conferences, partnering with school districts, and bringing what we’ve learned to more teachers and students. It’s more than I ever could have imagined!

We are so excited about our next launch, bumping up our ad spends, getting bigger webinar audiences and continuing to help teachers teach writing successfully, and help students learn to love writing.
