I’m blessed to work for a nonprofit helping some of the most spiritually oppressed and physically impoverished places in the developing world. (But unfortunately that also means I do a lot of work for free.)

As my family’s financial situation changed, I felt sad thinking I’d need to go back to a “real job” to contribute to our family income – instead of doing the philanthropic work that I love so much.

Around this same time, my book “Across the Street and Around the World” released with a major publisher. That’s when churches started asking me to train their teams on how to welcome refugees and international students (a topic related to my message in my book).

This felt like a beautiful way to continue my work, and contribute to my family income, or so I thought. I found myself in airport after airport… away from my family for days…and it still wasn’t enough to cover the bills.

Then another opportunity fell into my lap.

A colleague asked me to help co-launch a digital course for the faith-based world. I wondered if people would actually pay for a spiritual course.

When hundreds of students enrolled, I asked the creator where she learned how to get such amazing results…

I knew I needed to sign up! But I didn’t know how I would pay the $2,000 enrollment fee.

I prayed and determined to do it, no matter what. The week DCA opened, a church offered me $1,000 for a speaking engagement—and that covered HALF of DCA.

The day I enrolled in DCA, they surprised me by giving me another $1,000, encouraging me to take DCA and change the world with my training. (I still get a few tears of gratitude thinking of their generosity and what I perceived as God’s affirmation.)

So here we are a few years later, after a LOT of work and learning, and I am proud to say I DIDN’T have to go back to a corporate job to contribute to our family income!

I now have hundreds of students from nineteen countries!

My email list grew from 300 to almost 5,000 people!

And after 4 launches and putting my course on Evergreen, I have brought in over $100,000!

But the best part for me is I still have time to work for the nonprofit that I love, and I am home when I need to be for my 4 kids.

I’ve also given scholarships to thousands of students from Africa and Asia, – giving me the opportunity to change the world – all over the world – through my students.

People didn’t believe a faith-based course could be successful. I say, “Yes it can! Mine is!”
