Real stories from one of a kind business owners who started with courage and ended with successful digital courses.

Before creating my course, I worked as a documentary cinematographer for almost 15 years, running my own business. I’ve shot a lot of films and documentary series that you may have seen on Netflix, HBO, Showtime, Disney, and Discovery, and I absolutely love what I do.

But after 15 years, what was really wonderful for many years started to take a toll on my health and my relationships. To put things in perspective, in my industry we’re paid on a day rate, and that day rate is based on a 12-hour day (not counting travel!). So I was starting to get really burnt out. On a more personal note, I was struggling with infertility and losing hope that I would ever become a mom. After a couple failed rounds of IVF, it became very clear that it was impossible for me to continue on my fertility journey and work such a demanding, travel-heavy schedule.

Suddenly, I realized that I had no Plan B. I couldn’t continue doing the work I had known for so long, yet I didn't have any other skills. A wonderful friend who had taken Digital Course Academy had been encouraging me to create a course for years, and because I literally had no other choice, I finally listened. I’m so grateful to her for that. She changed my life by bringing me into this community.

I started leveraging the cinematography groups I was in on Facebook and leveraging my credibility to plant the seeds for my upcoming course. I did 70 research calls with my ideal clients. I created a sales page and reached out to people personally from my Gmail account (I had 300 people on my email list and no email service provider).

I didn’t do a lot of the things Amy recommends doing, but I was taking imperfect action and getting it done. I had my first launch in March 2023 and made $7,500K. And guess what happened during that first launch? On my third round of IVF, I got pregnant. Now that I had a literal “due date,” I was determined to make this profitable and successful.

I launched again and made $37K, which sustained me through maternity leave.

When my son was 4 months old, I launched again and made $47K, for a total of $90K in 18 months. I have no doubt that if I had done everything Amy told me to do, I would have earned more, but for me, this was a matter of taking imperfect action — and hey, making $90K is better than making $0!

I have to say thank you so much to this community and to Amy because this has been the greatest gift of my life. I have a business where I get to spend time with my son, and there's no price tag for that.
