I’ve been an “accidental artpreneur” for the past seven years, and during that time, I’ve learned that being an entrepreneur is almost as challenging as being an artist.
After graduating from art school, I struggled to find my place in the art world. So I ended up doing what most “starving” artists do… working dead-end, minimum wage jobs just to make ends meet.
It was so frustrating to feel like I was wasting my education and skills by not being able to turn my love for art into a career. That’s when I realized that if I wanted to make a living as an artist, I had to create my own space in the art world.
So I went for it and took a bold leap of faith by creating an art magazine!
I enjoyed creating the magazine, but it was a challenge to monetize at times, and I needed to find a way to create a more steady stream of income.
And that’s when I found Amy!
So I signed up for DCA and got to work! After three short months, I created and launched The Artist Navigation Course. It’s a sailing-themed course that teaches beginning artists how to navigate the business side of being an artist — while overcoming their self-limiting beliefs that will hold them back from success.
With my founding members launch in December 2020, I enrolled 20 students in my course and made $15,940!
When I launched again this year in 2021, I enrolled 17 more students and made another $13,549!
Amy does a wonderful job of simplifying digital course creation.
One of my biggest fears about creating my course was feeling like I had to teach really long lectures to have a good program for my students. Instead, Amy taught me that keeping my videos short and simple is both easier AND a more effective way for my students to learn.
