When a new mom rushes into the emergency room with her baby, not knowing what’s wrong or what to do, she is understandably terrified.

It’s something I witnessed every day as a pediatric ER nurse of 10 years.

But then, this particular set of “mom terror” became very personal when my own son started choking on his lunch one afternoon. If I hadn’t known how to stay calm and perform the Heimlich maneuver on him, he could have lost his life that day.

(Thankfully, I knew exactly what to do, and my son is still with us—laughing, playing, and getting into trouble every single day! 🥰)

That experience, though, made me want to get lifesaving information out to more moms. As many moms as possible!!

So they’re prepared, equipped, and confident. So they can stay calm in life-threatening emergencies and make safe decisions immediately. And if possible, save their child’s life without having to drive to the emergency room.

So, I started sharing free information on my Instagram to do just that. Here’s the thing…

I never planned on building a platform or being an influencer, or even an entrepreneur. I just knew that moms needed to get the information I had. And that there really wasn’t anyone out there teaching it.

A couple years into my Instagram information-sharing plan, a friend reached out to me and introduced me to Amy Porterfield. And not too long after that, my sister told me that I really needed to have an email list… not just an Instagram following.

Again, I had no idea what I was doing. So, we put a post up on Instagram that said something like… “Hey, I’m going to start a newsletter. Click here to sign up.”

Immediately, we had 10,000 people subscribe.

That’s when we knew we needed to learn how to build a course like Amy teaches in Digital Course Academy. So we could serve these moms in an even more meaningful and impactful way.

Since purchasing Digital Course Academy and launching our beta program, Mastering Medical Emergencies for Moms, in February of 2020…

… we’ve generated $850,000 in less than 7 months.

… my husband has quit his job to work in my online business full time. (A month later, he found out that they laid off half the company. Phew! Dodged a bullet there!)

… we’ve had 1,500 women tell us that they saved their child from choking after taking our course.

… we’ve been able to spend loads of time at home with our four kids.

… our lives have changed forever. And we’ve empowered thousands of moms to feel confident and calm even during terrifying emergencies.

I can’t thank Amy and Team Porterfield enough for this new life my husband, and I get to live now that she’s shown us the way!

Update: As of September 2023, Shannon has had over 10,000 moms take her digital course and is nearing the 2 million dollar mark in total course sales! Talk about making a big impact; way to go, Shannon!
